Privacy policy
Chutney helps you collect recipes, plan meals and manage groceries. This policy explains what stays on your device, what is processed when you use an account, and the choices you have.

Who is responsible
Daniel Bech is responsible for the personal information processed to operate Chutney. You can contact us about privacy or support at daniel.bech@gmail.com.
Your cookbook on your device
Your profile name and photo, recipes you write or import from websites, cookbooks, favorites, meal plans, portions, groceries, kitchen staples, cooking progress, personal notes and drafts are stored on your device. Signing in does not upload or sync this information to our account service.
Photos are optional. Chutney uses Apple’s photo picker to access only the pictures you select. Your device’s backup settings may include app files in backups managed by Apple.
Optional Sign in with Apple
You can use the local cookbook without an account. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple provides a private identifier for your Chutney account and credentials that let us verify your sign-in. This sign-in flow does not request your name or email address. Chutney never receives your Apple password.
Our account service stores the Apple identifier, an encrypted Apple refresh credential, hashed app session credentials, account timestamps and account preferences. We use them to provide and protect your account, recognize returning sign-ins, and carry out sign-out and deletion requests. Supabase hosts this service and its database; the configured database region is Frankfurt, Germany.
Recipe websites and images
Opening a recipe website connects your device directly to that website. It may receive your IP address, browser information and interactions, and its own privacy policy applies. Chutney’s recipe browser uses temporary website storage. Recipe data is read from the page on your device and reviewed before saving; Chutney does not upload the whole page to its account service.
Original recipe photographs may load directly from their source or image host. That host receives the network information needed to serve the image. Opening a creator link or sharing through another app also involves that service’s own privacy practices.
Social links and sharing
In the release covered by this policy, online TikTok and Instagram importing and shared discussions are not enabled. Social links saved for later import remain on your device. Personal notes and drafts are not uploaded.
When you deliberately share a recipe or grocery list through the iOS share sheet, the content you select is handed to the destination you choose. A shared copy is separate from your local cookbook; later edits or deletion in Chutney do not remove copies held by recipients.
Support and service security
If you email us, we receive your email address, message and attachments. Google provides the email service for our support address. We use your message to answer your request and investigate the issue. Please avoid including passwords, sign-in codes or unrelated personal information.
This support website is hosted through OpenAI Sites. Its hosting services process technical request information to deliver and secure the pages. We have not added advertising or analytics scripts to these pages.
Network and hosting providers process technical request information to deliver and protect the service. The account service also uses a hashed network-address identifier to limit repeated sign-in attempts. Chutney does not include advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs, and we do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Why we process information
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we process account information to provide the account service you request. We rely on our legitimate interests in securing the service and responding to support requests for the limited information needed for those purposes. Where we ask for consent, you can withdraw it without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
We use service providers only as needed to operate Chutney, provide support and protect the service. Information may also be disclosed where legally required or necessary to protect people’s rights and security. Providers may process information outside your country; contact us for details about applicable transfers and safeguards.
Keeping and deleting information
Local cookbook information remains until you remove it in the app. To remove the local cookbook and a connected Chutney account, open My kitchen → Your data. You can also reach deletion from Account. Deletion removes the local data described on that screen and the account record from our active service, and requests revocation of the Apple sign-in credential. It does not delete your Apple Account. Signing out alone keeps your local cookbook.
Deletion can require an internet connection and may need a retry after interruption. Limited hashed deletion receipts remain valid for up to 30 days so an interrupted deletion can finish; a hashed account barrier remains valid for 10 minutes to stop an old sign-in from recreating a deleted account. Expired records are cleaned up during subsequent sign-in processing. They cannot access account content.
Support correspondence and operational records are kept for as long as needed to resolve the request, secure the service and meet applicable legal obligations. Provider backup and log lifecycles may differ from active-account deletion. Copies in your device backups or held by recipients are managed separately by Apple or those recipients.
Your choices and rights
You can edit or remove local content, remove your profile photo, manage notifications in iOS Settings, sign out, or delete your Chutney account. The privacy policy is readable in the app without signing in.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of personal information, restrict its use, object to processing, or withdraw consent. Email daniel.bech@gmail.com to make a request. We may need to verify that the request concerns your account. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. We cannot retrieve local-only cookbook files from our account service.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when Chutney’s data practices change and show the new date at the top. Material changes will be explained in the app or through another appropriate notice. Features that send new categories of information to another provider will explain that processing before use.
